Risserkogel is one of the tallest peaks of the Tegernsee Mountains, rising alone south of Lake Tegernsee. Thanks to its isolated position, the summit cross rewards hikers with a sweeping panorama that stretches from the Kaisergebirge in the east to the Grossglockner and Grossvenediger in the south, the Zugspitze in the west, and even as far as Munich to the north.

The surrounding landscape is classic Bavarian Prealps terrain — alpine pastures, forests, and steep slopes that come alive with grazing cattle in summer and transform into a fine playground for ski touring and snowshoeing in winter. The mountain can be reached from every neighboring valley, and while the paths require sure-footedness, none involve real climbing.

• Hufnagelstube (Sutten area) in the Rottach valley — via Sieblialm and Riedereckalm, east ridge, about 2.5 hours, moderate difficulty
• Weiße Valepp-Alm (on the Sutten–Valepp toll road) — via Bernauer Alm, south ridge, about 3 hours
• Wildbad Kreuth — via Schwaigeralm, Scheueralm, Ableitenalm and Grubereck, west ridge, about 3 hours
• Kreuth (Riedlern district) — via the forested western flank of Grubereck, about 3 hours
• Wallbergbahn cable car top station — ridge hike via Setzberg and Grubereck, about 2 hours

• A popular winter ski touring and snowshoe route runs from Wildbad Kreuth up the steep, sun-exposed slopes of the Ableitenalm
• North of the summit lies the Plankenstein, with climbing routes from grade II to X
• Nearby you'll find two small mountain lakes, the Riedereckensee and Röthensteiner See

Risserkogel is a great pick for hikers wanting a huge panoramic reward without any technical climbing — the four-way view makes every step of the ascent worthwhile.
