The Östliche Marzellspitze rises to 3555 m right on the border between Austrian Tyrol and Italian South Tyrol, forming part of the Schnalskamm ridge in the Ötztal Alps. It's a rewarding glacier tour for experienced mountaineers seeking dramatic high-alpine scenery without the crowds.

The peak can be seen as a shoulder on the southwest ridge of the neighbouring Hintere Schwärze, separated from it by only a faint notch. Around it stretch the Marzellferner and Schalfferner glaciers, with views towards the Mittlere Marzellspitze and Mutmalspitze. The terrain is glaciated and snow-covered even in summer, demanding proper mountaineering equipment and glacier experience.

• Martin-Busch-Hütte (2501 m) — via the crevassed Marzellferner glacier towards the Hintere Schwärze, then along the ridge to the Östliches Marzelljoch and over gently sloping firn to the summit — about 4 hours, demanding, high-alpine route
• The historic 1872 first-ascent route started from the Pfossental valley via the Grafferner and the Similaun summit

• The approach crosses glaciated terrain — crampons, ice axe and rope are essential
• The summit lies directly on the Austria–Italy border
• The nearest hut is the Martin-Busch-Hütte at 2501 m

The first documented ascent took place on 24 July 1872, made by mountain guide Johann Pinggera from Sulden together with alpinist Victor Hecht.
