Mravečník (992 m a.s.l.) is a rewarding summit in the Kysuce Highlands, rising above the village of Terchová about 18 km east of Žilina. Despite its modest elevation, it punches well above its weight when it comes to views — on a clear day you can see all the way to the peaks of the Western Tatras. If you are exploring the Malá Fatra region, this lesser-known gem is well worth adding to your list.

Also known locally as Veľhora ('Great Mountain'), Mravečník forms a shared massif with neighbouring Okrúhlica (932 m) and defines the northwestern boundary of the Terchová Valley. The summit is covered in patchy forest that opens up at several vantage points, revealing a sweeping panorama: the Kysuce Highlands, the Kriváň Fatra range from Rozsutce to Malý Kriváň, the Javorníky hills, the Moravian-Silesian, Kysuce and Orava Beskydy ranges, Oravská Magura, and — in excellent visibility — the Western Tatras. Spring brings fresh greenery to the beech-covered slopes, while autumn transforms the hillsides into a mosaic of gold and amber. The peak lies within the buffer zone of the Malá Fatra National Park.

The name 'Veľhora' — literally 'Great Mountain' — hints at the significance this massif held for local communities throughout the centuries. The northern slopes feed the Radôstka stream, which flows down to the river Bystrica.
