Minčol (1,364 m a.s.l.) is a commanding summit in the Lúčanská Malá Fatra range, rising just 12 km south-east of Žilina and offering one of the finest 360-degree panoramas in the entire region. The long-distance International Trail E3 crosses the summit, connecting it to a wider network of European hiking routes.

The treeless top makes the views truly spectacular in every direction. To the east, on a clear day, you can see across Liptov all the way to the peaks of the Western and High Tatras; the ridge of the Low Tatras peeks above the Veľká Fatra. Closer by, the distinctive outline of Veľký Choč and the Krívna Fatra stand out sharply, while the northern horizon is filled by the Kysuce Beskids merging into the Moravian-Silesian Beskids with Lysá hora. The summit plateau is carpeted with vast patches of bilberry, and a large metal double cross marks the very top alongside a trail signpost. Just below, in the nearby saddle of Okopy, a World War II cannon is on permanent display — a tangible reminder of fierce battles fought here in April 1945.

• A large metal double cross and a trail signpost stand at the summit — easy to identify.
• The Okopy saddle nearby features a WWII cannon exhibit — worth a short detour.
• Every New Year's Eve a popular mass ascent event is organised by KST Višňové, drawing several hundred hikers (25th edition held in 2022).
• Each October a trail race called 'Beh na Minčol' covers 6.5 km with 850 m of elevation gain starting from Višňovská valley.

The slopes of Minčol still bear the scars of World War II — remnants of trenches are visible to this day, recalling the April 1945 battles that helped liberate the city of Žilina.
