Machy (1,202 m a.s.l.) is a rewarding summit in the Skorušinské vrchy range of Slovak Orava — compact enough for a half-day outing yet open enough to deliver sweeping mountain panoramas. A lookout tower and a shelter at the top make it a genuinely satisfying destination.

The ridge of Machy neatly splits the massif into two contrasting worlds. The north-western flank is cloaked in dense forest that keeps the trails cool and shaded even in summer. The south-eastern side, by contrast, is open and sparsely vegetated — and that is where the views open up dramatically. On a clear day you can pick out the peaks of the Skorušinské vrchy, Chočské vrchy and the Western Tatras, and with good visibility even the Malá Fatra, Oravská Magura and the Orava Beskydy appear on the horizon. Autumn is particularly spectacular when the surrounding forests turn gold and amber.

• From Zuberec (east) — blue trail — moderate

• There is a lookout tower and a wooden shelter at the summit — useful for a lunch break or a quick escape from a passing shower.
• The summit lies on a marked ridge trail.

Zuberec, the nearest village to the east, is well known for its open-air folk museum and serves as a gateway to the Roháče valley — making Machy an easy addition to a fuller day in the area.
