Kryta Czuba (1,246 m a.s.l.) is one of those Tatra peaks that stays well off the tourist radar — a quiet, forested sub-alpine summit tucked into the surroundings of the Chochołowska Valley in the Western Tatras. If you are looking for solitude and a taste of the wild side of the mountains, this hidden ridge-end is worth knowing about.

The peak sits at the eastern end of a ridge running from Furkaska, neatly dividing two side valleys — Dolina Kryta and Wielkie Koryciska — both branches of the famous Chochołowska Valley. Almost the entire summit is cloaked in dense forest, but on the southern slopes, just below the top, bare limestone cliffs drop dramatically above Dolina Kryta, giving a glimpse of the rocky bones beneath. The mountain is built entirely of limestone, as those exposed walls make very clear.

• Chochołowska Valley (car park at the valley entrance) — no marked trail leads to the actual summit; off-trail navigation required; difficulty: demanding due to the absence of waymarking.

• There is no official marked hiking trail to Kryta Czuba — experience in off-trail mountain navigation is essential.
• The Chochołowska Valley lies within the Tatra National Park; leaving marked trails without appropriate permits is prohibited.

Look out for the Swiss stone pines planted on the slopes of Kryta Czuba — they do not grow naturally in the Chochołowska Valley, making them a small but charming botanical curiosity in an otherwise wild landscape.
