Koniarky (1535 m a.s.l.) is one of those summits in the Malá Fatra mountains that genuinely delivers on its promise of sweeping views. Its open, grassy dome sits at the heart of the Krivánska Fatra ridge, and thanks to the absence of tall vegetation at the top, the panorama stretches in every direction — a rare treat in this part of Slovakia.

The peak sits in the central section of the main Krivánska Fatra ridge, within the most scenic stretch known as the Krivánske Veterné hole. The landscape around Koniarky blends alpine meadows, dwarf pine scrub, and bilberry-covered slopes that glow vivid green in summer and turn gold and purple in autumn. The south and east-facing slopes are open and sun-drenched, making this an excellent destination from late spring through October. The views are genuinely impressive: to the east rise the massive Veľký Kriváň and Pekelník, to the southwest stands Malý Kriváň, and on a clear day you can pick out the Veľká Fatra, the western Low Tatras, and the Orava, Kysuce and Moravian-Silesian Beskydy ranges along the northern and western horizons. One quirky detail: the entire Lúčanská Fatra is hidden behind Malý Kriváň as if deliberately shielded from view.

Koniarky sits right on the boundary between the Žilina and Martin districts — a modest geographical fact that somehow adds to the feeling that from here, you are standing at a true crossroads of the Western Carpathians.
