Klin (2044 m a.s.l.) is a fine pyramidal peak in the Barance ridge of the Slovak Western Tatras, rising almost 1000 metres above the floor of Jamnicka Valley. With its broad grassy slopes and commanding views, it offers a rewarding and accessible ridge walk that feels a world away from the busier Tatra trails.

The peak sits between Szczerbawy (2149 m) and Maly Baranec (1947 m), separated from both by shallow, wide saddles. Its eastern slopes fall towards Jamnicka Valley, while the western side drops into the narrow Tarnowiecka Valley. Two ridgelets descend from the summit, framing the Masłowy and Rzepowy gullies. The terrain is mostly open grassland — former pastures now slowly being reclaimed by dwarf pine — with only the eastern flank showing some rocky character. The panorama from the top is excellent: the Rosochy ridge, Otargance, the Bystra ridge, Tarnowiecka Valley and the broad Liptov basin all spread out before you.

How to reach the summit

• Autocamping 'Raczkowa' — green trail via Klinowate and Maly Baranec towards Baraniec; Klin is passed en route. Ascent approx. 4 h, descent approx. 3 h. Difficulty: moderate.

A small but important naming note: the Slovak name for Klin is Malý Baranec, which is easy to confuse with the neighbouring peak called Maly Baranec in Polish — known in Slovak as Mládky. Double-check your map before you set off!
