Keeseck (also called Keesegg) is the highest peak of the Panargenkamm ridge in the Hohe Tauern National Park, rising to 3173 m above the Defereggental valley in East Tyrol. It's a rewarding destination for experienced mountaineers seeking a remote and untamed corner of the Austrian Alps.

No marked trails lead to the summit, which keeps the mountain feeling wild and secluded. The ascent takes you across moraine slopes, a steep ridge and glacier firn fields of the Panargenkees, with views opening up to neighboring peaks such as Totenkarspitze, Alplesspitze and Reichenberger Spitze. In summer the terrain can be technically demanding due to firn and rock, while in colder months high-alpine glacier conditions prevail, requiring solid mountaineering experience.

• From Neue Reichenberger Hütte (2586 m) - via Daberlenke heading south along the lateral moraine of the Panargenkees, passing Gamsköpfl, then up the steep north ridge to the upper firn field and to the summit from the west, approx. 4 hours, demanding
• From Oberhaus-Alm (1786 m) - passing Großbachsee lake, approx. 6 hours
• From Rotenmanntörl (2997 m) - via the Panargenkees and Daberkees glaciers, approx. 3 hours

• No marked trails - ascent recommended only for experienced mountaineers
• The route crosses glacier terrain (Panargenkees, Daberkees), requiring proper equipment and glacier experience
• Neue Reichenberger Hütte serves as a convenient base for the ascent

The mountain gained sad notoriety after the death of nine-year-old Jakub Tejkl near the nearby Rotenmanntörl, a reminder that despite its beauty, this part of the Hohe Tauern demands full respect and preparation.
