Horná roveň (997 m a.s.l.) is a modest, unassuming peak in the northern part of the Lúčanská Malá Fatra range, rising above the village of Višňové about 8 km southeast of Žilina. It's the kind of place that won't headline a hiking guide, but it plays a quiet role for anyone heading toward the higher slopes of Minčol.

The hill forms a side ridge separating the Višňovská and Turská valleys, and its surroundings bear clear signs of forestry work. The partly wooded summit doesn't offer sweeping panoramas, but from the right spots you'll catch views of neighboring peaks — Polom, Hoblík, Úplaz, Malý Minčol, Minčol, Jastrabná, Skalnatá, Dolná roveň and Valientov diel — plus a slice of the Žilina basin lowlands. On clear days, looking north and west, the horizon reveals the ridgelines of the Kysucké Beskydy, Moravian-Silesian Beskids, Javorníky and Súľovské vrchy. Autumn and winter, with bare trees, often bring the best visibility.

How to get to the summit

• Višňové — a marked trail leading to Minčol (1,364 m) crosses directly over Horná roveň's summit; moderate difficulty
• Beyond Horná roveň, the trail's toughest section begins — a steep climb continuing above the tree line

Good to know

• Expect to see active logging traces around the peak, which can affect trail conditions
• The summit itself is hidden from the village of Višňové by the neighboring Dolná roveň

Horná roveň isn't a destination in itself, but rather a quiet waypoint on the longer trek toward Minčol — a good excuse to pause and take in the surrounding ridgelines before the climb gets serious.
