Veľký Grúň (1,274 m a.s.l.) is a wild and protected peak in the Belianske Tatry (Belan Tatras), rising above the picturesque village of Ždiar. Its untouched character makes it one of the most authentic corners of the entire Tatra range — nature here is strictly on its own terms.

The summit sits on a ridge running northward from the Zadné Jatky massif (2,020 m), surrounded by the dramatic high peaks of the Belianske Tatry main ridge — Ždiarska vidla (2,142 m), Havran (2,152 m) and Hlúpy (2,061 m) dominate the skyline. The western slopes descend into Monkova Valley, while the eastern side drops toward Žlabková Valley. The summit is covered in forest, with occasional clearings that offer glimpses of the surrounding ridges, the Spišská Magura plateau, and the rolling hills of southern Poland across the border.

• Ždiar village (roadside parking) — red-marked trail through Monkova Valley toward Široké sedlo runs along the western foot of the massif — note that the summit itself is off-limits to visitors.

• Veľký Grúň falls within the Tatra National Park and the Belianske Tatry National Nature Reserve — access to the summit is officially prohibited.
• The red-marked trail from Ždiar to Široké sedlo passes the western base of the peak and is the closest legal approach to this area.

The Belianske Tatras remain one of the most strictly protected parts of the Tatra range — Veľký Grúň owes its pristine, forest-clad character entirely to that protection.
