Gigalitz is a 3001 m peak rising in the Floitenkamm ridge of the Zillertal Alps, between the Floitengrund and Stillupgrund valleys. It's known as the home mountain of the Greizer Hütte, towering right above the hut and beckoning hikers with its distinctive twin summits.

The approach winds through grassy slopes and a rocky ridge, rewarding climbers with sweeping views over the surrounding Zillertal peaks. The route is marked but demands dry conditions - in rain or snow, the exposed grassy and rocky terrain becomes hazardous. In summer, it's a challenging yet rewarding outing for experienced mountain hikers.

How to reach the summit

• Greizer Hütte — follow the path toward Lapenscharte (2701 m), then take the marked turn-off at around 2500 m, continuing along the southwest ridge and grassy terrain to both summits — approx. 2 hours (775 m elevation gain), demanding and exposed route

Practical information

• A metal direction disc marks the north summit
• The summit cross was placed in July 2006 by a regulars' group from the hut known as 'FND' (Freitag nach Dienst)
• The neighboring Gigalitzturm (2978 m) offers a multi-pitch climbing route (7 pitches, grade 4+/5-), starting right at the Lapenscharte
• Dry conditions are required - the route becomes risky when wet or snow-covered

Beyond the hike itself, Gigalitz also serves as the gateway to a classic climbing route on the nearby Gigalitzturm, making it a great destination for both hikers and climbers alike.
