Eiskogel is one of the most recognizable peaks of the Tennengebirge range in the Northern Limestone Alps, in Austria's Salzburg region. Its south and west faces plunge in rock walls up to 1000 meters high, creating a dramatic sight from the valley below.

The northern and eastern sides tell a completely different story, sloping gently over grassy and scree-covered terrain down to the vast Tennengebirge plateau. This contrast between a wild, sheer wall and a peaceful plateau defines the character of Eiskogel. The twin-peaked summit rises near Werfenweng, close to the border between the Tennengau and Pongau regions, with the Eiskogelhöhle cave located at the foot of the summit structure. In winter, the same gentle slopes become a popular ski touring route, often marking the starting point of a full ski traverse of the Tennengebirge.

• Wengerau (near Werfenweng) — via Söldenhütte, approx. 4 hours, elevation gain 1350 m, difficulty: moderate (one exposed but secured rocky section rated UIAA I at the so-called Stiegl)
• The route continues through dwarf pine slopes and a scree bowl between Napf and Tauernkogel up to the Tauernscharte, from where easy grassy slopes lead to the summit

• The Stiegl section is rocky and quite exposed but equipped with safety aids
• The Eiskogelhöhle cave lies at the base of the summit
• The route is a popular winter ski tour and the starting point for a ski traverse of the Tennengebirge

Together with its neighbor Tauernkogel, Eiskogel is a favorite destination for hikers around Werfenweng who appreciate the contrast between rugged cliffs and a calm summit plateau.
