Diel (1,051 m a.s.l.) is a quiet, rewarding summit in the Skorušinské vrchy range, rising above the village of Veľké Borové about 14 km east of Dolný Kubín. It may not be the tallest peak around, but it offers genuine mountain solitude and surprisingly far-reaching views for its modest height.

The summit sits on a ridge running from Ostrý vrch (877 m) eastward toward the dominant Kopec (1,251 m). The slopes are mostly forested, but near the top a cleared area facing east opens up a lovely panorama of the Skorušinské vrchy, Chočské vrchy, and the Western Tatras — on clear days you can also spot the Low Tatras, the Greater and Lesser Fatra, Oravská Magura, and even the Beskydy. On the southern flank lies the meadowy karst plateau of Svorad, a fascinating natural feature where the Prosiečanka stream vanishes underground as soon as it hits the limestone, leaving the lower gorge of Prosiecka dolina dry for most of the year. In summer the southern slopes bloom with open grasslands; in winter the forest wraps everything in deep snow and the whole ridge feels wonderfully remote.

The red long-distance trail no. 0847a (Dolný Kubín – Zuberec), which also serves as a cycling and running route, traverses the southern slopes of Diel and is the most practical starting point for any of the approaches to the summit.
