Cubryński Koń is one of those ridge sections in the Tatras whose name alone hints at what awaits - and it lives up to it. This is an extremely narrow stretch of the eastern ridge of Cubryna, dropping away on both sides in sheer walls over a dozen meters high. It's not a spot for casual hikers, but for experienced climbers it's one of the more distinctive features of this part of the Tatras.

Cubryński Koń sits in the upper part of the eastern pillar of Turnia Zwornikowa, between the Pośredni and Niżni Cubryński Przechody (notches). The view from such a knife-edge ridge is breathtaking - sheer drops on both sides, and the sensation of balancing on a rocky edge stays with you long after. The surroundings are wild and rugged, typical of the high alpine sections of the Polish Tatras, with views over neighboring rock towers and passes.

How to reach the peak

• Access is only possible via a gully overgrown with dwarf mountain pine on the southern wall, containing steep slabs - a route requiring alpine experience and skill, demanding difficulty

Practical information

• The drop to Niżni Cubryński Przechód is a wall about 20 m high
• The connection to Pośredni Przechód is a two-meter step
• The terrain requires climbing skills and is not suitable for regular hikers

In climbing terminology, a 'koń' (horse) refers to an extremely narrow ridge section - and it's hard to imagine a better example than this stretch of Cubryna's eastern ridge.
