Baniasta Turnia (2414 m a.s.l.) is one of the most distinctive rocky peaks in the Slovak High Tatras — its rounded, dome-like silhouette makes it instantly recognizable from the Starý Smokovec valley below. What makes it especially appealing is that despite having no marked hiking trails, it is considered easily accessible for fit and experienced mountain walkers.

The peak sits in a lateral ridge running southeast from Malá Vysoká, nestled between Obľazová saddle and Zvalitá saddle. Just below the main summit lies a secondary elevation known as 'Baniasta Strážnica', which is particularly eye-catching when viewed from the Staroleśna Valley. The views from the top stretch across the surrounding Tatra peaks and deep valleys. In summer the terrain is rocky and raw; in winter a blanket of snow transforms the peak into a truly dramatic sight.

The name 'Baniasta' simply means 'dome-shaped' or 'bulging' in Polish — a nod to the rounded profile the peak shows when admired from the valley. Its German and Hungarian names honour Miklós Szontagh Sr., a notable figure in Tatra history. The first recorded summer ascent took place on 14 August 1892, with a remarkable party that included Polish poets Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer and Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński.
