Erdmannsdorf Castle is a Historicist-style manor perched on a rocky spur above the Zschopau River, in the village of the same name in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge). Behind its walls lies over 800 years of history, from a medieval hillfort to an elegant noble residence.

The castle occupies a striking position on a southeast-facing promontory, offering pleasant views over the Zschopau valley and the surrounding hills of the Erzgebirge. The setting is peaceful and green, and a stroll around the grounds lets you sense the atmosphere of the old stronghold, whose oldest surviving part, the so-called Steinhaus, can still be seen in the cellar. In autumn the surrounding woods turn golden, in winter the snow-covered grounds feel quiet and fairy-tale-like, and in summer the lush river valley invites longer walks.

• Erdmannsdorf village center - local path, approx. 15-20 minutes on foot, easy difficulty
• Footpaths along the Zschopau valley leading toward nearby Erzgebirge villages

• The castle's side building was restored in 2000 and now houses apartments, club rooms and an exhibition space
• Medieval masonry survives in the castle's cellar

Fun fact: the original stronghold was first mentioned in 1191 as the seat of the knight Werner de Ertmarsdorf, also credited as builder of Nidberg Castle near Zöblitz, making Erdmannsdorf one of the older documented settlements in the Ore Mountains.
