This is the only nature museum in Ukraine entirely dedicated to the Ukrainian Carpathians - a place where you can learn about the geology, wildlife and centuries-old highland culture of the region under one roof. Run by the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve, it makes a fascinating stop before or after exploring the mountains around Rakhiv.

The exhibition is split into two sections - the nature of the Carpathians and the history of nature use in the region, from early colonization to the present day. A real highlight are the two dioramas - a karst cave and a primeval beech forest recreated from the Uholka woods - giving visitors a genuine feel for the region's wild landscapes indoors. Another part of the museum is devoted to the culture and traditions of the Hutsuls, Boykos and Lemkos, the ethnic highlander groups of the Carpathians. Whatever the season, it is a great introduction to the region before heading out onto the trails.

The museum was founded in 1995 on the initiative of reserve director Fedir Hamor, with its artistic design created by members of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
