The Maritime Museum in Kotor is the only institution of its kind in Montenegro - a place where the seafaring heritage of the Bay of Kotor comes alive within the baroque walls of the former Grgurina noble family palace. Beyond its exhibits, it functions as a lively cultural hub, hosting book launches, art exhibitions, concerts and commemorations.
Housed in an 18th-century baroque palace right in the heart of Kotor's Old Town, on the Square of the Boka Navy, the museum offers a rich sensory journey through three floors of history. A large first-floor terrace hosts summer receptions during cultural events, adding to the lively atmosphere in warmer months. Inside, visitors move through halls dedicated to naval weaponry, the historic Boka Navy brotherhood, captains' family salons (Florio and Ivelić), an ethnographic collection, and displays on steamship navigation and 20th-century maritime history.
How to get thereIt's worth knowing that the museum owes its survival to the courage of curator Marko Kurjelo, who saved the collections from destruction during the Italian occupation in World War II.
