Bobotov Kuk is the highest peak of the Durmitor mountain range and for decades was believed to be the highest point in all of Montenegro. Even though newer surveys revealed three higher peaks near the Albanian border, Bobotov Kuk remains the crown jewel of Montenegrin hiking and the ultimate goal for visitors to Durmitor National Park.
The summit rewards climbers with sweeping views across most of Montenegro's mountains, including Lovćen above the Adriatic Sea, and even Kopaonik and Tara in Serbia and Maglić in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The western face is the most dramatic part of the mountain: together with the neighbouring peaks Bezimeni Vrh and Djevojka, it forms a massive 400m-high, nearly 2km-wide rock wall resembling a natural amphitheatre, dropping toward the Škrka valley with its two glacial lakes. On the southern side, the mountain plunges toward the Zeleni Vir lake basin, ringed by the jagged Zupci ridge. Snow often lingers in the Valoviti Do basin well into summer, giving the whole area a wild, high-alpine character.

Practical information
The first recorded ascent was made in 1883 by Austrian cartographer Oscar Baumann, opening the door to over a century of mountaineering history on Durmitor's highest peak.
