Festetics Castle in Keszthely is one of Hungary's most significant aristocratic residences - an impressive 101-room building set within a vast park by Lake Balaton. The baroque palace, repeatedly rebuilt since the mid-18th century, reached its final neo-baroque form in the 1880s. The interiors feature original furniture, family portraits and the famous Helikon Library holding over 86,000 volumes - the largest intact aristocratic library in Europe. The 42-hectare park, a protected natural area, delights visitors with centuries-old trees, including a 400-year-old English oak, and offers peaceful, scenic walks especially in autumn and winter.
