The Spiehlerweg is a high-alpine trail through the Lechtal Alps that rewards serious hikers with dramatic rocky scenery and a genuine sense of mountaineering adventure. Named after Anton Spiehler, the man who opened up this mountain range, it links two mountain huts across rugged terrain.
Starting at the Memminger HĂŒtte, the route passes the Seewiseen lakes on easy trail up to the Wegscharte (2585 m). A steep, cable-secured descent of about 100 metres follows, before the marked path curves southwest toward the MittelrĂŒcken ridge. It crosses the Parseierjoch (2560 m), the lowest point of the ridge, secured with cables, then continues over the remains of the Patrolferner glacier to the steep rocky slopes below the Patrolscharte. Long stretches here are secured with cables as the trail climbs to the Patrolscharte (2845 m). From there, good paths lead either directly through the Gasillschlucht gorge or - the recommended option - over the Gatschkopf (2945 m) down to the Augsburger HĂŒtte.
Difficulty and terrainFew trails capture the wild character of the Lechtal Alps quite like this one, making it a memorable crossing between two classic alpine huts.
