'Strzecha Akademicka' is one of the oldest mountain huts in the entire Karkonosze (Giant Mountains) range — a place where the history of mountain tourism stretches back to the mid-17th century. Sitting at 1,258 m above sea level, on the popular trail from Karpacz to Śnieżka, it welcomes hikers with a warm atmosphere, hearty food and a fascinating past. Yes, Goethe slept here too.

The hut is tucked between the Mały Staw glacial cirque and Biały Jar, surrounded by classic Giant Mountains scenery: rocky ridges, dwarf pine thickets and sweeping views over the Jelenia Góra valley. In summer it's a perfect base for exploring the ridge trails; in winter the snow-covered landscape and cosy interior make it an ideal refuge. The nearby hut Samotnia is just a 10-minute walk away — well worth combining the two into one trip.

A little piece of history: in September 1790, Johann Wolfgang Goethe spent the night here and watched the sunrise every morning from this very spot. The stuffed moose head still hanging in the dining room is another reminder of the hut's remarkable past.
