If you are looking for a genuinely cosy mountain hut away from the crowds, Hala Kondratowa is your answer — it is the smallest hut in the Polish Tatras, tucked in at 1333 m above sea level right beneath the iconic Giewont massif. With only 24 sleeping places, this is as close to a private mountain refuge as you will find in the region.
The hut sits on the former Hala Kondratowa alpine meadow, wrapped in sweeping views of Giewont. In summer the open pasture invites you to slow down and breathe in the mountain air; in autumn the golden grass glows against the grey limestone peaks; and in winter a deep silence settles over the snowbound clearing. It is a perfect base for hiking up to Giewont or crossing to Kondracka Przełęcz. Following a major renovation completed in June 2025, the hut has a new structure inside but retains its traditional log-clad appearance — the old timber planks were carefully reused on the exterior.

The hut is named after Władysław Krygowski, a celebrated expert on the Polish Carpathians — look out for carved wooden quotes from his books and a hand-crafted portrait inside. A place where Tatra history feels very much alive.
