Perched at 1,494 metres above sea level right on the shore of Popradské Pleso lake in the High Tatras, this mountain hut is one of the most scenically situated refuges in the entire range. Its tall, shingle-covered gabled roof blends so naturally with the surrounding peaks that it almost seems to have grown out of the mountain itself. Whether you arrive in summer or winter, the setting will take your breath away.

The lake's mirror-like surface reflects the rocky summits above, and the views from around the hut are nothing short of spectacular. In summer, green alpine meadows and rugged ridgelines frame the landscape; in winter, the whole scene is wrapped in deep snow, making it a favourite destination for snowshoers and cross-country skiers too. The building's wooden architecture, with its folk-inspired details and stone ground floor, feels perfectly at home in the Tatra landscape. Best of all, the hut is open year-round.

The very first hut on this spot opened back in 1879, built by the Hungarian Carpathian Society and named after Vojtech Majláth, the nobleman who championed its construction — a legacy kept alive today by the neighbouring 'Majláthova chata', opened in 2011.
