Koča na Gozdu is a mountain hut standing right beside the road to the Vršič Pass, above the Velika Pišnica stream. It's one of the first stops for hikers heading into the Julian Alps from Kranjska Gora, and it carries a history that stretches back to the First World War.

The setting is peaceful and wooded, with the steep slopes surrounding the Vršič road rising all around. In summer it's a popular rest stop for cyclists and walkers tackling the famous pass road, while in winter the area is blanketed in snow — a quiet reminder of the tragedy that once struck nearby. Just below the hut stands the Russian Chapel, built in memory of Russian prisoners of war who died in an avalanche while building the road.

From the hut you can continue to Mihov dom na Vršiču (30 min) or Erjavčeva koča na Vršiču (1 h), while more ambitious hikers can climb Prisojnik (2547 m) via the famous Hanzova pot in 4-5 hours.
