Perched at 2005 m above sea level on the northern flank of the Hornbachkette ridge in the Allgäu Alps, Kaufbeurer Haus is a mountain hut built for hikers seeking solitude and alpine adventure above the Hornbach Valley. It's a rewarding base for tackling some of the range's finest summits.

The setting is classic Allgäu Alps terrain — jagged ridgelines, rocky peaks and sweeping views over the Hornbachtal below. In summer the hut has a quiet, self-reliant mountain atmosphere, while in winter it switches to a basic winter room for experienced alpinists only. This is a hut for those who enjoy a bit of solitude and don't mind carrying their own supplies.

From the hut, routes lead to Bretterspitze (2608 m), Urbeleskarspitze (2632 m, up to UIAA II+) and Gliegerkarspitze (2575 m), while the Enzenspergerweg trail connects to the Hermann-von-Barth-Hütte in about 5 hours.
