Kamenná chata pod Chopkom — affectionately nicknamed 'Kamienka' — is one of Slovakia's most remarkably situated mountain huts. Perched on the main ridge of the Low Tatras, just below the Chopok summit, it ranks as the third highest mountain hut in the entire country. Whether you're tackling a multi-day ridge traverse or simply looking for a memorable overnight stop, this place delivers.

What makes it truly special is its location just a few dozen metres from the upper gondola station, making it unusually accessible while still feeling genuinely high-mountain. In summer, the sweeping views across the Low Tatras ridge are breathtaking, with open alpine meadows and a sense of space that's hard to find elsewhere. In winter, the hut transforms into a rugged base for those bold enough to cross the ridge in snow and frost. Right next to the hut runs the Heroes of the SNP Trail — the longest marked mountain trail in Slovakia.
