Tucked away in the remote upper reaches of the Rofental valley, the Hochjoch-Hospiz sits at the foot of the Guslarspitzen in the Weißkamm range of the Ötztal Alps. This historic hut has long served as the gateway for crossing the Hochjoch pass and climbing the surrounding peaks.
The setting is dramatic high-alpine terrain - rocky slopes, glacier views, and a sense of remoteness that few huts can match. In summer, hikers use it as a base for tackling nearby three-thousanders, while in winter the landscape transforms into a demanding glacial world reserved for experienced mountaineers. The views toward the Guslarspitzen and surrounding glaciers are especially striking.
How to reach the hut
Practical information
The original hut once stood higher up on the opposite slope but was destroyed by avalanches and wartime looting; the current building dates from 1927. The approach trail is named after Cyprian Granbichler, a guide who died here in a snowstorm in 1868.
