The Kolné Stream Canyon is a small yet remarkable natural gem tucked away near the town of Česká Lípa, where a modest stream has carved a narrow gorge into sandstone bedrock. The highlight is a tight, 10-12 metre deep and just 2 metre wide rocky notch through which the stream tumbles in a series of cascades totalling 18 metres in height, including one striking 4-metre waterfall.

The atmosphere here feels almost secretive - damp, shaded rock walls, the constant murmur of falling water, and dense forest create a real sense of stepping away from the everyday world. Carved into the canyon walls are several mysterious rock engravings of uncertain age and origin. In spring the valley bursts with anemones, primroses and snowflakes, while the surrounding woods are dominated by oak and pine. Due to the narrowness and steepness of the terrain, the upper part of the canyon with the waterfall is closed to visitors, but the lower section can be explored using steps cut into the rock.

How to get there

• From Stvolínky - red-marked trail, easy access, followed by unmarked forest and field paths toward the stream
• From the hamlet of Kolná - via the road from Kozly, then across a meadow and through forest, descending left into the ravine

• The upper canyon and waterfall are inaccessible to the public due to the narrow terrain
• The protected area covers 5.42 ha at an elevation of 320-350 m
• A 400 kV power line crosses above the stream near the site

This little canyon has been protected since 1991 for its unique rock formations and cascades, making it one of the lesser-known but genuinely fascinating spots near the České středohoří region.
