The Ostertaltobel, also known as Osterbachtobel, is a striking gorge carved by the Ostertalbach stream near the Gunzesrieder Tal in the Allgäu region of Bavaria. It's a favorite spot for hikers and families looking to cool off on a hot summer day.

Over its final one and a half kilometers, the stream has cut a gorge up to 30 meters deep into the surrounding molasse rock, with the water tumbling down several cascades up to ten meters high. The atmosphere here is lush and dramatic, with steep rocky walls, spray-cooled air, and dense greenery lining the path. In summer the gorge draws crowds eager for a refreshing dip, while in other seasons the rushing water and forested surroundings offer a quieter, more contemplative walk.

How to get there

• Parking area at the upper end of the gorge (near the Otto-Schwegler-Hütte) - Tobelweg trail, moderately difficult
• Parking area at the lower end of the gorge, where the stream meets the Gunzesrieder Ach - alternative starting point

Practical information

• The Tobelweg trail runs alongside the waterfalls and is maintained by the municipality of Blaichach
• Sturdy footwear is recommended due to wet and rocky sections
• Large parking areas are available at both ends of the gorge

The Ostertaltobel is especially popular with families in summer, when its natural pools become a favorite swimming spot in the Allgäu.
