Pravčická brána is the largest natural sandstone rock arch in Europe and the signature landmark of Bohemian Switzerland. Shaped over thousands of years by erosion, this massive arch is genuinely breathtaking in person, far beyond what any photo can capture.

The surrounding landscape is made up of steep sandstone cliffs, deep gorges, and viewpoints looking out over the hills of the Děčín Highlands. In summer the area is lush and busy with hikers, in autumn the sandstone glows against the changing forest colors, and in winter, dusted with snow, the whole scene feels almost fairy-tale-like. Since 1982 walking on the arch itself has been forbidden due to cracks and erosion, but you can admire it up close from the terraces and viewpoints just below.

• Hřensko - red trail through Dlouhý důl valley to the Tři prameny junction, about 2 km, steep, moderate to demanding
• Mezní Louka - red trail along the foot of Křídelní stěny, about 6.5 km, gentler but longer route

• Walking onto the arch itself has been banned since 1982 due to structural cracks
• The final stretch to the terraces and viewpoints requires an entrance fee, paid at turnstiles near the Sokolí hnízdo chateau
• The site lies within Zone I of Bohemian Switzerland National Park, so nature protection rules apply
• A restaurant and viewing terraces are accessible once inside the paid area

Interesting fact: decades of tourist traffic have worn away a layer of rock 60 to 80 cm thick from the arch, a striking reminder of how fragile this natural wonder really is.
