Mokra Koleba is a small rock shelter tucked into the Kondratowa Valley, a charming stop for anyone exploring the Western Tatras. It's not a dramatic cave with stalactites, but rather a cozy, damp chamber that adds a nice detour to a mountain hike.

The entrance lies on the southern slope of Kalacka Turnia, at an elevation of 1285 meters above sea level. Inside you'll find a spacious but low chamber supported by four rock pillars, with two short side passages branching off. The walls stay constantly moist, covered with ferns, mosses, algae and lichens — a tiny damp ecosystem hidden in the rock. In summer the chamber offers a cool retreat from the heat, while in winter the surrounding Kondratowa Valley turns into a beautiful snowy landscape.

How to get there

• Kuźnice — trail toward Kondratowa Valley, about 1.5–2 hours, easy to moderate difficulty
• Short approach from the main valley trail to the entrance on the slope of Kalacka Turnia

Practical information

• No cave formations (speleothems) inside — the interior is a damp rock shelter rather than a decorated cave

The first mention of Mokra Koleba was published by Stefan Zwoliński after visiting it in 1933 together with Jerzy Zahorski, while the first detailed plan and description were made by I. Luty in 1992.
