Zawalidroga is a small but memorable rock formation in the Izera Mountains, whose name literally means 'road-blocker' — it sits right across the path, forcing hikers to walk around it. This quirky feature makes it a fun little stop on a walk along the High Ridge (Wysoki Grzbiet).

Standing about seven metres tall, this rock outcrop rises at the contact zone between the Karkonosze granitoid massif and the Izera metamorphic rocks. Its upper part is built of hornfels forming a rounded block, while the lower part consists of an aplite vein streaked with muscovite flakes. Seen from the west, the upper section resembles the silhouette of a human head — worth pausing for a look. The surrounding landscape is classic Izera Mountains scenery: gentle, forested ridges and open meadows, quiet and uncrowded, pleasant to visit in any season, though views toward the Karkonosze are often at their best in autumn and winter.

The name is no accident — it truly blocks the road, a quirk that also earned it the old German name Branntweinstein.
