Zámostská hoľa (1612 m a.s.l.) is one of those rare summits where the world opens up completely around you. A broad, gently domed top surrounded by kilometre after kilometre of open pastoral meadows, it delivers sweeping 360-degree views with nothing to block them — pure sky, rolling ridges and a sense of wonderful freedom.

The whole ridge here is carpeted in vast grassy alps that stretch as far as the eye can see. In summer the meadows are lush and green; in autumn they turn rich gold and amber. The terrain is gentle and open, with views dropping north towards the Ľupčianska Valley and south towards the Jasenianská Valley. This landscape looks much as it did when shepherds grazed their flocks here for centuries — the peak's very name comes from those ancient pastoral alps. Zámostská hoľa sits within the Low Tatras National Park, right on the main watershed ridge of the range.

• Continuing east towards Chopok — red trail, 5.5 km, 525 m ascent, 2 h 15 min, difficulty: moderate

• The summit lies on the Cesta hrdinov SNP, one of Slovakia's most iconic long-distance trails.
• Chata Magurka mountain hut (1080 m) on the northern slopes is an excellent base for overnight stays.
• The ridge is fully exposed and treeless — offer little natural shelter in bad weather.

The Cesta hrdinov SNP — 'Path of the Heroes of the Slovak National Uprising' — runs right over this summit, making every step here a quiet tribute to Slovakia's wartime history.
