Zámky (1002 m a.s.l.) holds a quiet distinction: it is the lowest and southernmost 'thousander' peak in the Jizera Mountains, rising above the scenic Souš reservoir. It may not be the most dramatic summit in the range, but it rewards those who seek solitude and a genuine off-the-beaten-path experience.

The summit is cloaked in young spruce forest, which means views of the surrounding mountains are blocked — but what you gain instead is atmosphere. The trails here are quiet, the woods feel untouched, and the whole ridge has a gentle, unhurried character. The neighbouring peaks of Hruškové skály (997 m) and Bílé kameny (993 m) complete this forested eastern spur of the Vlašský ridge. In winter, the snow-laden spruces make the walk especially atmospheric.

• From Knížecí cesta — a side path branches off from this main track running along the southern slopes of Zámky. It was formerly marked with a yellow hiking blaze, but the markings are now faded and barely visible, and the path itself is gradually becoming overgrown. A GPS track or detailed map is strongly recommended.

• The yellow trail markings leading to the summit are largely faded — bring a map or GPS.
• About 0.5 km to the southeast, the isolated rock formation Zámecké kameny is worth a short detour.
• The Souš water reservoir lies on the western slope of Zámky, on the Černá Desná river.

Zámky is the kind of summit that doesn't announce itself — and that's exactly its charm. It's the Jizera Mountains at their most honest: forested, quiet, and just a little wild.
