Zadní Planina (1,423 m a.s.l.) is one of those Krkonoše summits that quietly wins you over — no crowds, no cable cars, just raw mountain wilderness right in the heart of the Giant Mountains. It sits 4.5 km east of Špindlerův Mlýn and roughly 6 km southwest of Sněžka, yet feels surprisingly remote.

The massif spreads into numerous ridges and side valleys, which means the peak doesn't loom dramatically over its surroundings — except to the north, where the mountain drops steeply into the deeply cut Dlouhý důl valley. Streams radiate outward in all directions from its slopes: Zelený potok to the east, Svatopetrský potok to the north, and Klínový potok to the southwest, eventually feeding the Elbe river system. The summit zone is cloaked in dwarf pine, while lower slopes are covered in spruce forest. Two beautiful meadow clearings — Klínové Boudy to the southwest and Zadní Rennerovky to the south — host mountain huts and offer a welcome breath of open space.

• From the southeast — via Liščí hřeben ridge, with the mountain hut Chalupa na rozcestí as a waypoint, or the larger Výrovka hut in the saddle toward Luční hora

• The entire area lies within Krkonoše National Park (KRNAP) — leaving marked trails is prohibited.
• The summit itself is off-limits for tourists; hiking and the cross-country ski route Krkonošská magistrála pass through the slopes below 1,350 m.
• In winter, the Krkonošská magistrála cross-country ski trail runs across the surrounding slopes — a popular route.

The German name 'Plattenberg' — meaning 'flat mountain' — is a nod to the centuries of German-speaking settlers who once farmed these high meadows and left their mark in the names of clearings and huts still visible today.
