Vreteň (821 m a.s.l.) is a prominent peak in the Kysucká vrchovina highlands, sitting just 3 km south of Kysucké Nové Mesto — close enough for a casual day out, yet rewarding enough to feel like a real mountain adventure. It is a favourite local escape, and once you hit the trail you will quickly understand why.

The peak forms part of a west–east running ridge, and its slopes are draped in mixed spruce and beech forest that turns into a blaze of colour in autumn. The summit itself is densely wooded, so sweeping panoramas are not guaranteed — but at a few clearings with thinner vegetation you can spot surrounding hills, and on a clear day the view stretches to the Malá Fatra mountains, part of the Žilina Basin, the Strážovské and Súľovské hills, the Javorníky range, and the Moravian-Silesian, Kysucké and Silesian Beskids. A rest area with a cross and benches at the top makes it a satisfying destination for hikers of all levels.
