Věžní skály is a quietly impressive summit in the Jizera Mountains, the highest point of the Central Jizera Ridge. Its rocky plateau of granite outcrops hides a genuine gem — a rocking boulder known simply as Viklan, near rocks nicknamed Vlčí doupě (Wolf's Den).

The mood here is wild and forested rather than dramatic — the summit is covered in young spruce stands and transitional scrub woodland dotted with birches and rowans, giving it an atmospheric, almost fairy-tale feel, especially in misty autumn weather. In clearer conditions, the granite rocks open up nice views toward the Jizerka settlement, the Pytlácké kameny rocks, and the Jizera River. Winter brings deep snow and hushed forest silence, perfect for a peaceful snowshoe trip.

• Look for the Viklan rocking stone near the Vlčí doupě rocks close to the summit — a fun little detour
• The peak was historically known as Jelení stráň, a name still found on maps as late as 1997 and in geographic literature from 2006

An interesting footnote: in 1956 a narrow-gauge forest railway (600 mm gauge) was built along the slopes of Věžní skály to haul away timber felled by massive windstorms — it operated until 1969, a small but fascinating trace of the forest's working past.
