Vârful Omu (2507 m a.s.l.) is the highest point of the Bucegi Massif and the sixth highest peak in Romania — a commanding summit where three counties meet and the views seem to stretch forever. It is one of those rare places where you can stand on a genuine high-alpine plateau and still find a warm bed for the night.

The landscape up here is rugged and open, with rocky terrain typical of the Southern Carpathians. In summer the summit offers sweeping panoramas towards the Piatra Craiului ridge and down into the Prahova Valley far below. In winter it transforms into a serious alpine environment, heavily snow-covered and exposed to strong winds — beautiful, but demanding respect. The highest natural rock point of the massif actually reaches 2514 m at the very tip of the summit boulder.

How to reach the summit

• Bușteni (Prahova Valley) — classic eastern approach, several hours of hiking, demanding.
• Sinaia — southern approach across the Bucegi plateau, a popular alternative.

• Cabana Omu — a mountain hut situated right at the summit at 2507 m, offering accommodation and food.
• The Vârful Omu meteorological station operates year-round and is considered the highest permanently inhabited place in Romania.
• A first-order triangulation benchmark is located behind the meteorological station; the official military topographic elevation is 2504.9 m.
• The summit marks the tripoint border of Dâmbovița, Prahova and Brașov counties.
