Upłazkowa Turnia is one of those Tatra rock towers that look modest from a distance but reveal themselves as a maze of cliffs, crevices and caves up close. Rising above Wąwóz Kraków in the Kościeliska Valley, it drops nearly 350 metres down to the gorge floor despite appearing unassuming when viewed from Ciemniak.

This is a spot for those drawn to the wild, rocky side of the Western Tatras. Built from carbonate rocks, the ridge hides a remarkable number of caves and rock shelters — including Jaskinia z Konkrecjami Niżnia, Dziura nad Zachodem and Upłazkowa Koleba, to name just a few. The main Upłazkowa Ridge is a complicated chain of towers and saddles falling away in steep walls on both the southern and northern sides, while the approach from Pisaniarski Żleb is far gentler. In summer, grassy slopes contrast with the raw stone of the gorge below; in winter, the whole massif takes on a stark, remote character.

• Upłazkowa Turnia has no marked tourist trail leading to it.
• It can be admired from Polana Pisana and from the area around Chuda Przełączka and the route through Czerwony Żleb to Dolina Tomanowa.

• The summit is accessible only to climbers — numerous climbing routes have been established here.
• The terrain is rocky and technically demanding, riddled with caves and rock shelters.
• Best viewpoints reachable on foot: Polana Pisana and the Chuda Przełączka area.

With hidden passages such as Tunel pod Upłazkowym Przechodem and Lustrzany Korytarz, this rocky realm remains one of the lesser-known yet most mysterious corners of the Kościeliska Valley.
