Upłaziańska Kopka (1,457 m a.s.l.) is a quietly distinctive summit along the long north-western ridge of Ciemniak in the Western Tatras, separating the Kościeliska Valley from the Miętusia Valley. It is the kind of place that rewards those who venture off the beaten path — peaceful, genuine, and steeped in the pastoral history of the Tatra highlands.

The massif is shaped by several ridgelets and gullies — including Upłaziański Żleb, Krowi Żleb and Szeroki Żleb — giving the terrain a pleasingly varied character. Above the peak spreads the grassy Wyżnia Upłaziańska Rówień plateau, while the surrounding slopes tell a story of transformation: once almost treeless and heavily eroded by centuries of sheep grazing on the Upłaz and Miętusia alpine pastures, the land is now slowly being reclaimed by forest. In autumn especially, the changing colours of the advancing woodland make this corner of the Tatras particularly atmospheric.

• Cudakowa Polana (starting point) — red trail via Adamica ridge and Upłaz glade, approx. 3 h 25 min up (2 h 30 min down), moderate difficulty. The trail continues onwards via Chuda Przełączka and Twardy Grzbiet to Ciemniak peak.

• Upłaziańska Kopka lies within the Tatra National Park — an entry fee applies.
• Commercial timber harvesting takes place in parts of the massif, so expect occasional trail disruptions.
• The red trail via Adamica is the only marked route here — old shepherds' paths have been reclaimed by the forest.

The Adamica ridgelet — the longest in the massif and the one carrying the marked trail — descends all the way to the confluence of the Miętusi and Kościeliski streams, a beautiful reminder of the shepherding past that shaped this landscape.
