Tkacka Góra is a quiet, off-the-beaten-path summit in the Jizera Mountains, tucked into a side ridge of the High Ridge just above the Czech border. It's a place for hikers who want solitude and a taste of the raw, weathered character of these low mountains.

The elongated massif has a poorly defined summit, so don't expect a single dramatic viewpoint — instead, the whole area rewards exploration. The southern slope below the top is scattered with rocky outcrops, and the massif is built from Variscan porphyritic granites typical of the Karkonosze and Jizera Mountains. Spruce monoculture forest once covered the summit, but was wiped out in the 1980s by an ecological disaster caused by air pollution. Today young forest is regrowing, with dead tree stumps still poking above the canopy as a reminder of that era. Winters here are harsh and snowy, while summers offer peaceful forest walks in a true borderland atmosphere.

How to reach the summit

• No marked trails lead to the summit — reaching it requires off-trail navigation, best attempted from Jakuszyce or Szklarska Pass.
• An alternative approach is via the Kozi Grzbiet ridge, from whose southern slope Tkacka Góra rises slightly.

Practical information

• No signposted trails — this area suits more experienced hikers comfortable with navigation.
• At the southern foot of the mountain, on the Czech side, lies the former settlement of Tkacze, now part of Harrachov.
• The Old Customs Road, once linking historic glassworks, used to run along the western and southern slopes.
