The Südlicher Rofenbergkopf is a rewarding summit for anyone drawn to the rugged, rocky character of the Ötztal Alps. Rising to 3229 metres, it may not be the tallest of its group, but it delivers a genuine high-alpine experience away from the crowds.
The peak lies within the Weißkamm ridge and ranks as the second-highest of the Rofenbergköpfe group. It's sometimes confused with the Mittlere Rofenbergkopf, a name usually reserved for the lower eastern summit nearby. To the southeast rises the taller Westlicher Rofenbergkopf (3279 m), which - despite its name - actually sits further south than the Südlicher Rofenbergkopf, one of those quirky naming details worth knowing before you set off. The surrounding landscape is classic Ötztal terrain: bare rock, glacier-carved valleys, and sweeping views of neighbouring summits. Light shifts dramatically here across the day, and conditions can change quickly with the season, from firm summer trails to demanding snow and ice in winter and spring.
