Stankowa is the highest peak of the Jawornicki Ridge in the Sowie Mountains (Góry Sowie) - a dome-shaped summit that hides not only lovely views but also a dark chapter from World War II. It's a great destination for hikers who enjoy mixing a mountain walk with a bit of mystery.

The summit is partly covered by spruce-beech forest, especially near the top and on the northeastern side, while the remaining slopes and the foot of the hill are covered with meadows and pastures. This gives open, scenic views in summer and a peaceful, snow-covered landscape in winter. In spring and autumn, the contrast between forest and meadows creates a picturesque mosaic of colors, perfect for landscape photography.

How to reach the summit

• Hiking route across the Jawornicki Ridge - time and difficulty depend on the chosen approach, moderately demanding terrain due to the dome-like shape of the hill

Practical information

• During World War II, the Germans dug probably 6 adits into the western slope of Stankowa - the complex is poorly explored and hazardous due to numerous collapses, so exploring the underground tunnels is not recommended
• To date, only about 500 meters of the underground workings have been surveyed

The mysterious adits hidden in Stankowa's slope still spark the curiosity of history enthusiasts and treasure hunters, though their full secret remains undiscovered.
