Šoproň (1370 m) is a peaceful summit in the heart of the Veľká Fatra mountains in Slovakia, offering rewarding views of the mighty Ploská and Borišov massifs. It sits along a long, winding ridge running northward, with open grassy slopes on the south-east and denser forest on the north-west side — a summit with two very different faces.

The landscape around Šoproň is a lovely blend of traditional mountain pastures and forest. The south-eastern slopes dropping toward the Močidlo valley are largely grassland — ancient sheepherding grounds that are still grazed today, with a shepherd's shelter standing in the upper valley. In summer the atmosphere is calm and pastoral, while in winter these open, snow-covered slopes become a popular off-piste ski area for guests of the nearby Chata pod Borišovom mountain hut. The views from near the summit toward the bulky silhouettes of Ploská and Borišov are genuinely impressive.

• Ľubochňa (valley) — the Veľkofatranská Magistrála long-distance trail (red marking), passing through Kopa, Tlstý diel, Ľubochianske sedlo, Vyšne Rudno, Príslop, Malý Lysec, Štefanová and Javorina to Šoproň; total section distance 24.1 km, total ascent 2140 m, approx. 8 h 40 min — demanding.
• Chata pod Borišovom — a short ridge walk from the mountain hut, easy and popular especially in winter.

• Šoproň lies within the Veľká Fatra National Park — national park regulations apply.
• The Veľkofatranská Magistrála, one of Slovakia's finest long-distance mountain trails, passes directly over the summit.
• The nearby Chata pod Borišovom mountain hut offers accommodation and meals.
• The open south-eastern slopes above the Močidlá valley are a popular winter ski-touring area for hut guests.

Šoproň may be modest in prominence, but that understated quality is exactly what makes it such a pleasant discovery along the Veľká Fatra ridge.
