Skalnica is a modest but fascinating peak on the edge of the Karkonosze Foothills, rising right above the town of Szklarska Poręba. Its steep, rocky northern face plunges into the Kamienna valley, while the gentle southern slopes offer an easy contrast — a landscape full of surprises packed into a small area.

The whole massif is scattered with rock formations, boulder fields and standalone rocks bearing curious names — Głazisko, Dziobata, Piekielnik and the Red Cave (Czerwona Jaskinia) are all worth seeking out along the way. Built from Karkonosze granite, the mountain offers cool, shaded forest walks in summer, while autumn and winter open up views over the Kamienna valley and surrounding hills. The southern slopes, increasingly dotted with guesthouses, form a gentle transition into the tourist town of Szklarska Poręba below.
