Šiprúň (1,461 m a.s.l.) is one of the more rewarding off-ridge summits in the north-eastern Veľká Fatra range — quiet, forested, and offering surprisingly far-reaching views for those who make the effort. If you enjoy hiking without the crowds, this one is for you.

The summit is draped in sparse spruce forest that filters but does not entirely block the views. From the right spots you can see the western Nízke Tatry, the Západné Tatry, Veľký Choč, the Oravská Magura, and on a clear day a large stretch of the Malá Fatra ridge together with Babia hora. The southern slopes drain into the Nižné Matejkovo valley, while the northern flanks feed water toward the Trlená valley. Šiprúň sits slightly aside from the main ridge, separated from it by the Vyšné Šiprúnske Sedlo col, which gives the ascent a pleasantly varied character. Neighbouring peaks — Malá Smrekovica (1,485 m), Predný Šiprúň (1,441 m) and Zadný Šiprúň (1,340 m) — invite easy extension routes.

• Šiprúň lies within the buffer zone of the Veľká Fatra National Park.
• An emergency shelter (koliba) is available at the end of the meadow along the red trail toward Tlstá hora, at the junction below Chabzdová.

The peak gives its name to an entire geomorphological sub-unit of the Veľká Fatra — quite an honour for a summit that sits modestly off the main ridge and within the administrative boundaries of the town of Ružomberok.
