Sine Skałki (1122 m a.s.l.) is the second highest peak in the Jizera Mountains — quiet, unspoiled and genuinely off the beaten track. Its broad, dome-shaped summit rises from the extensive plateau of Zielona Kopa and rewards visitors with wide panoramas of the mountain landscape and a fascinating story written in dead tree stumps and regenerating forest.

The summit plateau is so flat and evenly shaped that the actual highest point is hard to spot without looking for the weathered gneis boulder field that marks it. The northern slopes drop steeply toward the Kwisa Valley, while the western side descends to Mokra Pass. The southern and eastern flanks are almost completely level. Clouds and mist are frequent companions here, giving the place a moody, atmospheric feel. Snow can linger on the summit well into mid-May, so plan your spring visit accordingly.

• The summit is crossed by the red M. Orłowicz Trail, one of the main long-distance routes of the Jizera Mountains, linking Świeradów-Zdrój with Szklarska Poręba.
• Several tributaries of the Kwisa and Izera rivers have their sources on the slopes of this peak.

In the 1980s, acid rain caused by severe air pollution wiped out the entire spruce monoculture that had been planted here in the 19th century. Today a young, healthy forest is reclaiming the slopes, but the skeletal trunks of the old trees still poke above the new growth — a striking reminder of one of the worst ecological disasters in the Sudetes.
