Siarkan (2,254 m a.s.l.) is the highest and most prominent peak of the Siarkan Ridge in the High Tatras — a sharp, twin-summited massif steeped in dragon legend and genuine alpine atmosphere. If you are looking for a less-crowded High Tatras objective with real character, this is a compelling choice.

The mountain features two summits: the northern Wielki Siarkan (Great Siarkan) and the southern Mały Siarkan (Little Siarkan), separated by the Siarkan Notch at 2,250 m a.s.l. The ridge divides the Złomiska Bay from the Dragon Valley (Dolinka Smocza), and the views along the crest take in a raw, high-mountain landscape of towers and rocky hollows. In summer the grey granite gleams under blue skies; in autumn the surrounding slopes glow with colour; in winter the massif takes on a serious, fully alpine character.

The name 'Siarkan' derives from the Slovak dialect word 'šarkan', meaning dragon — and the jagged ridgeline does indeed resemble the spine of a mythical beast when seen from a distance. The first recorded ascent took place between 1902 and 1904, and the first winter ascent was made by Gyula Balla and Lajos Rokfalusy on 10 December 1911.
